Sterile Keratitis following Collagen Crosslinking

چکیده
PURPOSE To report a keratoconic eye that developed severe sterile keratitis and corneal scar after collagen crosslinking necessitating corneal transplantation. CASE REPORT A 26-year-old man with progressive keratoconus underwent collagen crosslinking and presented with severe keratitis 72 hours after the procedure. The initial impression was infectious corneal ulcer and a fortified antibiotic regimen was administered. However, the clinical course and confocal microscopy results prompted a diagnosis of sterile keratitis. The eye developed severe corneal scars leading to reduced visual acuity and necessitating corneal transplantation. CONCLUSION Sterile keratitis may develop after collagen crosslinking resulting in profound visual loss leading to corneal transplantation.

Corneal collagen crosslinking in the treatment of infectious keratitis
PURPOSE To report the use of corneal collagen crosslinking in the treatment of infective keratitis not responding to antimicrobial therapy. METHODS Two retrospective case reports of infective keratitis treated with corneal collagen crosslinking. RESULTS In both cases, corneal collagen crosslinking caused a rapid resolution of the infective keratitis, leaving residual stromal scarring. Due t...

Corneal collagen crosslinking (CCC)with riboflavin/ ultraviolet-A (UV-A) is a new therapeutic technique designed to strengthen the cornea and arrest progressive corneal ectasia. Few complications have been reported following this therapy. We report the case of a 40-year-old patient who had CCC for progressive keratectasia secondary to keratoconus. The patient had no medical history of systemic ...

Keratoconus is a condition characterized by biomechanical instability of the cornea, presenting in a progressive, asymmetric and bilateral way. Corneal collagen crosslinking (CXL) with riboflavin and Ultraviolet-A (UVA) is a new technique of corneal tissue strengthening that combines the use of riboflavin as a photo sensitizer and UVA irradiation. Studies showed that CXL was effective in haltin...

Bacterial keratitis is a serious ocular infectious disease that can threaten vision. The disease generally progresses rapidly and can lead to corneal scar, stromal abscess formation, perforation, and dissemination to adjacent tissues if not treated properly. Recent studies showed that corneal collagen crosslinking (CCC) using ultraviolet-A/riboflavin is effective in the treatment of bacterial k...

Introduction: The cornea may become infected and perforated after epithelium-on collagen crosslinking. Case presentation: A healthy 33-year-old male who underwent corneal collagen crosslinking in both eyes developed a purulent keratitis and bilateral corneal perforations, requiring bilateral penetrating keratoplasties. He was exposed to methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) by a fa...
